Dubai: The leading universities in UAE are making significant strides in sustainability by embracing renewable energy solutions and other green initiatives. These universities are taking proactive steps towards sustainability, including energy-efficient technologies, waste reduction measures, and educational initiatives. 

By implementing these practices, they reduce their environmental impact and inspire future generations of students to become advocates for a more sustainable world.

Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, located in Masdar City, is dedicated to research and education in renewable energy, sustainability, and clean technologies. The campus is a sustainable urban development living model designed to minimise energy and water consumption. 

The American University of Sharjah has installed rooftop solar panels to generate renewable energy on campus. It has implemented energy-saving measures such as LED lighting, efficient HVAC systems, and water conservation initiatives. 

Heriot-Watt University Dubai has installed solar panels to generate clean energy on campus and reduce reliance on conventional power sources. Middlesex University Dubai focuses on sustainability through various initiatives, including solar energy projects and curriculum integration. 

University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has implemented solar energy systems to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs and emphasises sustainable education and research.

Middlesex University Dubai is committed to promoting sustainability through various initiatives, including solar energy. The university has invested in solar panels to harness renewable energy for powering campus facilities. In addition, Middlesex Dubai integrates sustainable practices into its curriculum and encourages research projects and extracurricular activities that raise awareness about environmental issues.

The UAE University funded 20 research projects in January 2024. These projects address sustainability and climate change mitigation and include topics related to technologies of renewable energy technologies, natural resource management, and sustainable agriculture.
